Overview

The Annapurna Base Camp trek is a popular trek in Nepal. It explores the Annapurna Conservation area, in the western part of Nepal. The trekking trail of the Annapurna Base Camp includes streams, terraced rice fields, oak and rhododendron forests, and spectacular Himalayan views. Natural hot springs, several steep climbs and warm hospitality of the local people are features of the trek that make it special.

Also known as Annapurna Sanctuary Trek, the trip begins from Nayapul after an hour driving from Pokhara, it follows the ridge of the Bhurungdi Khola. Gradually, it then heads to Tikhedhunga, Ulleri and arrives at Ghorepani, a Magar village. The sunrise views from nearby Poon Hill are breathtaking. This viewpoint also offers panoramic views of Dhaulagiri (8167m), Annapurna (8091m), Machapuchhre (6993m), and Hiunchuli Himalayan ranges. The natural hot spring at Jhinu village provides a chance to relax. The trip leads up to the Machhapuchre and Annapurna base camps (A.B.C), where snow peaked mountains come into view. Glaciers and early morning sunrises are stunning memories you will take from the Annapurna Base Camp trek. It is also possible to see wild animals like the Himalayan Thar, Leopards, Musk Deer, and many bird species.

The Annapurna Base Camp trek has basic lodge or 'teahouse' accomodation, various choices of food such as spaghetti, pizza, chips as well as traditional Nepali national food like Dal Bhat (lentils and fresh local vegetables). Spring and autumn are the best seasons to trek this route. Day 01:  Arrive in Kathmandu (1300m).

Day 02:  Kathmandu: Sightseeing and Trek Preparation.

Day 03:  Fly/drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (823m): 6 hrs drive .

Day 04: Drive to Nayapul (1.5 hour), trek to Tikhedunga (1570 m). 4-5 hrs.

Day 05: Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani (2840m).

Day 06: Hike up to Poon Hill (3210m)-Tadapani (2610 m).

Day 07:  Tadapani to Chhomrong (2170m): 5 - 6 hours.

Day 08:  Chhomrong to Bamboo (2310m): 4 - 5 hours.

Day 09:  Bamboo to Deurali (3230m): 3 - 4 hours.

Day 10:  Deurali to Annapurna Base Camp (4130m) via Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3700m): 5- 6 hours.

Day 11:  ABC to Bamboo: 7 – 8 hours.

Day 12:  Bamboo to Jhinu Danda (1760m): 5 - 6 hours.

Day 13:  Jhinu Danda to Naya Pul and drive to Pokhara: 6 hrs.

Day 14:  Fly/drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu.

Day 15:  Departure to the International airport.

Full itinerary

Day 01:  Arrive in Kathmandu (1300m).

Namaste and welcome to the Himalayan country of Nepal. Our company’s representative will meet you at the Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu. Then, transfer to the hotel and rest. Walk around the local area in evening. O/N at Hotel.

Day 02:  Kathmandu: Sightseeing and Trek Preparation

After breakfast, we set off for the Kathmandu city sightseeing tour. We visit the famous Hindus and Buddhista’ monuments. They are Pashupatinath (the greatest pilgrimage site of Hindus), Bouddhanath (Buddhists’s Stupa), Swoyambhunath (Buddists’s Stupa) and Kathmandu Durbar Square (where the living goddes lives). Back to the hotel and prepare for the trek. O/N at Hotel.

Day 03:  Fly/drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (823m): 6 hrs drive 

After breakfast, We drive to the airport to fly Pokhara. It is a 25minute scenic flight with views of gorges and terraced farmlands. It is also possible to drive to Pokhara depending on preference and availability. You can enjoy boating on Phewa Lake during the evening. O/N at Hotel.

Day 04: Drive to Nayapul (1.5 hour), trek to Tikhedunga (1570 m). 4-5 hrs

From Pokhara, we drive to Nayapul for 1.5 hours. It is our check-in point to Annapurna Conservation Area Project (Acap) and TIMS counter. Following the ridge of Bhrungdi Khola, we head towards the Tikhedhunga, crossing  teraced rice fields. O/N at Lodge.

Day 05: Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani (2840m).

On the second day of our trek, we begin to walk up to Ulleri. While climbing, we see the Annapurna massif for the first time. After having lunch at Ulleri and resting, we trek further to the Ghorepani, our campsite for the night. O/N at Lodge.

Day 06: Hike up to Poon Hill (3210m)-Tadapani (2610 m).

Wow, it is a huge day to hike up to Poon Hill and we start early. It takes about 45 min to reach the view tower. This offers views of a breathtaking sunrise over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massif. The surrounding himalayan peaks are stunning. We then climb down to Ghorepani, have breakfast and trek to Tadapani. O/N at Lodge.

Day 07:  Tadapani to Chhomrong (2170m): 5 - 6 hours

The trail heads through the rhododendron forest to the Chhomrong village from Tadapani. First we trek down to the Kimrong Khola and climb up after crossing a bridge. Now we meet another trail from Nayapul or from Phedi. After 5-6 hrs, we reach the Gurung village- Chhomrong. O/N at Lodge.

Day 08:  Chhomrong to Bamboo (2310m): 4 - 5 hours

After breakfast, we start our trek gradually heading towards Chhomrong Khola, crossing the 2500 stone steps. We cross a bridge over the stream and head up through the Bamboo forest crossing the Sinuwa and Kulidhar. O/N at Lodge.

Day 09:  Bamboo to Deurali (3230m): 3 - 4 hours 

Today, we head to Deurali from via Dovan. We reach the himalayan hotel after lots of up and down. Passing through the Hinku Cave, we arrive Deurali. O/N at Lodge.

Day 10:  Deurali to Annapurna Base Camp (4130m) via Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3700m): 5- 6 hours 

After breakfast, we walk gradually through the Machhapuchhre Base Camp. Now the Himalayan views of the Annapurna range are dramatic. We can see Mt. Fishtail, Annapurna, Hiumchuli and Gangapurna. We then reach Annapurna Base Camp. It is situated in the shape of a bowl. O/N at Lodge.

Day 11:  ABC to Bamboo: 7 – 8 hours 

We get up early in the morning and view a stunning sunrise over the Annapurna massif. After breakfast, we start to trek down the trail. After 7-8 hours continual walk, we arrive at Bamboo. O/N at Lodge.

Day 12:  Bamboo to Jhinu Danda (1760m): 5 - 6 hours 

Today, we trek down to the Jhinu Danda from Bamboo. Heading down through the bamboo forest, we arrive to the Chhomrong Khola. After climbing the steps, we arrive at Jhinu Danda. We can enjoy the natural hot spring here, said to be especially good for th skin. O/N at Lodge.

Day 13:  Jhinu Danda to Naya Pul and drive to Pokhara: 6 hrs.

Today we trek to Nayapul from the Jhinu Danda, along the stream named Modi Khola. After reaching Nayapul, we check-out from the ACAP counter. Then we drive all the way to Pokhara on our private vehicle. Walk around the Lake side in the evening. O/N at Hotel.

Day 14:  Fly/drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu.

After breakfast, we drive to the airport and fly to Kathmandu. It is a half an hour flight to Kathmandu. Or we drive back to Kathmandu via Prithvi highway along the Marshyangdi and Trishuli River. The views are again superb. Arrive at Kathmandu and transfer to the hotel. We can visit around the local market in the evening.. O/N at Hotel.

Day 15:  Departure to the International airport.
