Overview

The Gokyo Valley is a beautiful paradise in the Everest region, locally known as the Khumbu region. Trekking to the Gokyo Valley is an alternative trek to the Everest Base Camp trek. The Gokyo Valley or the Gokyo Lake Trek combine both alpine natural beauty as well as cultural diversity. The trek heads through the ethnic Sherpa settlements and through the Sagarmatha National Park, rich in Himalayan flora and fauna. The Gokyo RI, after a short hike from Gokyo valley is the finest attraction on this trip, which offers breathtaking views of Everest and neighbouring peaks.

The Gokyo Valley is called the valley of death due to its location at an altitude of 4970m. The trek is also regarded as a more traditional trek in the Everest region. The trek begins after a half hour flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. Heading through the lush forests and following the Dudh Koshi river, it reaches Namche Bazaar, a gateway to the Khumbu region. After acclimatisation, we follow the trail of Machhermo and finally the spectacular Gokyo valley comes in to view. The trip to Gokyo RI offers breathtaking scenery of the Ngozumpa glacier, the largest glacier in Nepal, and six frozen lakes, Gokyo peak, Mt. Everest (8848m), Cho Oyu (8188m), Lhotse (8414m), Makalu (8463m), Nuptse and Thamserku. The view of the fabulous ice ridge between Cho Oyu and Gyachung is a sight to behold.

The natural lush vegetation, gorges, and flora and fauna are other features of Gokyo trekking. It is one of the finest trails, which heads through the rhododendron and birch forests. The diverse wildlife on this trails include musk deer, himalayan Thar and several other endangered species. The enticing rural communities we walk through are incredible to explore.
