Overview

The Upper Mustang is a forbidden Kingdom of Lo and a Himalayan traditional settlement similar to the Tibetans. It is located at the upper part of the Kali Gandaki River, which remained untouched by the modern world. The trekking to Upper Mustang includes the world’s deepest Kaligandaki gorge. Several Himalayan ethnic settlements lie on the trail of this trekking. The capital of the historical kingdom Lo- Manthang and the cave like houses are the major attractions of the trek to Upper Mustang.

After a short scenic flight from Pokhara to Jomsom, the Upper Mustang Trek begins. Jomsom is the central administrative center of Mustang Region. The trek follows the ridge of the Kaligandaki River, crosses different ethnic villages as Syangbochen, Gyami, Tsarang and ultimately it enters into the wall covered Himalayan Kingdom. The trekking package to Upper Mustang provides an opportunity to explore the mystery of this barren valley and astonishing landscape of the locality in Nepal Vacation. This place was opened to visit for the visitors only in 1992. The culture, rituals, customs and daily lifestyles are distinct and worth to discover. The Tiji festival in Upper Mustang entices the culture lovers and researchers to hike in this forbidden Valley. The rainfall is very low in this region because it is located in the Himalayan rain shadow area. The Muktinath Temple, which is a pilgrimage place of Hindus and Buddhists, is another reward in this trip to Upper Mustang.

Spring, autumn and monsoon are the best seasons to trek in the Upper Mustang. It is both rewarding the natural panoramas and unique culture and lifestyles of the local people.
